The M 16 Was a Piece of Shit
Soldiers hated this rifle. It required incessant cleaning, which in a rainy, muddy, humid climate like vietnam, was next to impossible. The via kong who normally stripped dead americans of every scrap of equipment they could find, often just left the m sixteens behind. They were considered to be worthless, too unreliable, even for guerillas. As one marine said about a particularly nasty ambush, you know what killed most of us? Our own rifle.
