When the Facts Change

CHAPTER

The Problem We've Got to Solve on Housing

Chris Bishop is the National Party's housing spokesman to When the Facts Change. He says New Zealand has one of the most expensive houses in the developed world. The government spends $4 billion a year on housing subsidies, he says. That money isn't spent on health or education and it's grossly unproductive. 25,000 people are in severe need of housing but can't get it - 3,500 families live in motels. It's just very difficult for young Kiwis to get into the housing ladder.
