The biggest mass extinction in the record, 250 million years ago, where the earth underwent something like ten degrees o global warming. It's not obvious that there was a massive trigger for that. And i think a better working hypothesis is something went pathologically wrong in the system as well 250 miion years ago,. Temperatures just kept going up and up and up, into what we call a hothouse earth.
