The Cost of a Slave

John's account of the anointing is situated before Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair whose brother Lazarus was ill, John 11-12. Matthew and Mark invite their hearers to consider the contrast between the costly and loving anointing of Jesus and Judas callus in mercenary sale of him. Their Exodus 21-32, Zechariah 11-12-13.
