Is There a Gap in Artificial Intelligence?

How far do you think that industry has to go with its adoption of artificial intelligence? I've been looking this area lot recently, im around ai deployment. What does it take to get between a and a research paper or a train model to actually productionized and being used safely? It is a giant gap, but i think it is being tackled by a multitude of different companies,. m from very small start ups to a very large companies.
