Film Critics Criticizes the Movie Rating System
Critics of the rating system believe that enforcement has become essentially a question of money. A full one quarter of the movie going public is between 12 and 17, precisely the group excluded by the r rating. In short, audiences as young as 12, if not younger, really wanted to see movies that had the residue of their original ex rated form. And everyone who stood to profit off of that audience wanted to cover their asses for making those profits. By 19 82, this was a problem that had persisted for at least two years.
