Bernice was often out and about with her many friends, most of whom were married. Among the married she felt her singularity. She could not bear young men who approached her talking about themselves all the time. Bernice longed to meet his wife as a raven haired, dark eyed woman. But now the real florence sat rummaging in her bag before her,. this balloon like giant, at first babyish and then shouting accusations. The dreamed of florence had vanished.
