The Role of Persuasion in a Social Democracy
The rules-in-approach is intuitively appealing, but it's also got to persuade the people with power. Rawls' philosophy has to persuade enough people to elect a government that will maybe constrain the power that the powerful currently have. I don't think it rests on an idea of politics where we all have to actually agree in practice that these are the laws that we want to be put into place.
