Last year a colleague gave me a book called The Mental Game of Poker by Jared Tender (Thank you, Juan!). I thought, but I don't need to know anything about poker...?

Anyway, I gave it a read and found it really eye-opening in terms of the way to look at improving a skill, such as speaking another language.

I'm going to share with you the part that really resonated with me and helped me understand why I ask myself "Why do I feel like I'm not making any progress? I've been speaking Spanish for  4 years and I some days I feel like I've never spoken a word before"

The ideas in this book gave me some perspective on that. I've shared it with my students and now I want to share it with you too.
