How does it work to map out the values or needs of people in rural areas? Well, it's not difficult. You can ask people to list the various priorities that they have and then ask them to sort pieces of paper. And then there's a process called matrix scoring, which is very powerful. I don't understand why scientists don't use it more. Matrix scoring is quite simple. Some things which are going to be compared and you put them across the top. Robert Chambers is a British academic and development practitioner. He spent his academic career at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex. In 2013, he became an honorary fellow of the International Institute of Social Studies.
