Three Ways John Uses the Old Testament to Produce His Own Content
Sometimes John follows a content sequence or structure of an Old Testament passage in order to then write some portion of his own book, the book of Revelation. Sometimes John will pull clusters of illusions from specific passages in the Old Testament and use those clusters in specific sections of Revelation. The most prominent example of this would be the Exodus plagues. There's not like citing the plague passages directly or explicitly, but he uses the imagery a lot in these sections.
