In the eighties, a lot of baby trans girls were like, i want to be madonna. And it's like the idea of running away to like become madonna is like such a phantasy transition too. But also initially, when she becomes susan, she's like kind of dissociating in this way. She's not connecting with the things that are happening, just kind of experiencing things around her. It takes you a minute to be like, oh, no, i'm more complicated than that. I am me, and some of the stuff from before, maybe things i still have.
