The Human Brain's Truth Bias

People rely on rules of thumbs or heuristics to assume that most stuff is just probably true. But when you shift and use that heuristic in environments where the base rate of misinformation is much higher, that heuristics doesn't work well. And so people are much more likely to be deceived. Then there's related phenomena like illusory truth. The more often you repeat something, the more true it feels for people because the brain mistakes fluency for familiarity. I think those are qualities we all share.
