Introduction
Avicenna was born in a small town near the city of Bukharah. In his day it belonged to the vast area known as Khorasan. This eastern realm had once been a power base for the revolution that saw the Abbasids overthrow the Umayyads. He spoke Persian natively and did use it to write philosophy.
