Mont-Goutinant Bonaparte was assigned to the La Faire Artillery Regiment, headquartered in Valance. He spent his whole youth being inculcated with martial values and being groomed for the life of an officer. From the age of 9 he never really left a military environment. Napoleon led men in uniform from the age of 16 right up until Waterloo.
