Is There a Second Theme in the First Movement?
In the end, beethoven repeats the same note six one times. The rhythmic transformation is the key, and that's what's so remarkable. This figure will repeat as an accompaniment all over the place. There is barely one measure of this movement that doesn't feature this horse riding rhythm. It's a constant struggle for orchestras even those who know it.
