How Do Barrier Islands Form?

A barrier island is a long coastal island that consists of sand. It's not entirely clear how barrier islands form, they occur in many different coastal environments. They may form from spits that become detached, or from coastal ridges that then become partially submerged. There are also other hypotheses as well as to exactly where barrier islands come from. In the next episode we will look at the cri i sphere, so that is, the the poles and glaciers, and the effects of frozen water on the earth.
