The Role of Monks in Medieval Catholicism
Monks are a fundamental part of a belief system of salvation theology that involves purgatory. In medieval Catholicism you're looking after the lives of the dead once they've moved on beyond the mortal realm. The one was to be specialised in salvation and the soul. Whilst for the individual monk or nun it was a personal act of devotion and sacrifice and purification. They form a very key part of how society thought it ought to function.
