In 1924, Raytheon invented radio tubes. They brought down the price of home radios and made them easier to use. The ability to plug a radio into a wall socket rather than rely on unwielding batteries domesticated the radio. This is an example of being at the right place at the right time with the right set of skills. It will never cease to amaze me how all of these ideas fit together.
