The Importance of Dreaming
The only thing close to writing fiction and life is dreaming. It comes from the same murky subconscious place. And we're all brilliant storytellers when we dream, then we wake up and we can't do it. A lot of Irish writers seem to have this attraction towards Spain. Do you have the feeling that it was always there? Or did you then have to make it up? I think with a good story, whether it's a short story or a novel or whatever it is, it just has to be discovered and uncovered by the writers. You just have to dig it up.
