The Importance of Attachment Styles

Bessel van der Kalk: I started to realize a lot of it boiled down to their attachment style. When we're dealing with trauma, especially developmental trauma and complex trauma, they're almost always going to have those in secure attachment styles. And so your avoidance aren't going to like the touchy feely stuff. It's it takes a lot to even bring them into therapy because they've learned to cut off their feelings,. The disorganized or unresolved attachment styles are hard to connect with. They can look quite borderline or histrionic again.
