Octipuses Make Ink
octopuses use the ink in situations where they think something's going to try to eat them. The only reason that an octopus is going to ink is when it's in fear for its safety, or even its life. They will squirt this ink out, and it basically distracts the editor, kind of allows the octopus a chance to escape away from the preditor.
