A Novel Can Give You Deep Insight Into Yourself
A good novel can give us insight into ourselves because we are often not honest with ourselves about ourselves. Sometimes the things we keep from ourselves are merely uncomfortable or inconvenient. But other times, a lot more is writing on it. We build a whole personality and a whole outer outer life that depends on keeping it locked up where things go. Things go for so long, and so much gets built on p of it, that admitting the truth of ourselves would have such devastating and unpredictable psychological consequences that we just do our best to forget about it.
