The History of Cranial Elongation
Intentional cranial deformation predates written history and was a common practice among a number of widespread and varied cultures. The Peraca skulls were discovered in 1928 by Peruvian explorer Uliotelio, who stumbled across a huge labyrinthian cemetery containing more than 300 elongated skulls. Most cases of skull elongation are the result of head flattening or head binding during infancy.
