A lot of the discussions in Christology came about because of a desire to affirm and deny certain things. So, for example, we want to say that marries the mother of God. Now, there are some ways in which that statement could be taken which would be obviously false. theology's desire to have a coherent way of affirming and denying certain things is definitely in play here.
