The Collegiality of the Court
There's this culture of the law and following precedent that helps to ensure judicial independence. When you join the court that you are joining a family, says Judge Ellis. People go out of their way to share things as mundane as here are the spreadsheets I use to keep everything on track so that we don't cases don't fall through the cracks. The collegiality can vary from court to court and circuit to circuit but in Chicago it's almost a welcoming committee.
