The brits had a lot of latitude as they crossed the atlantic. They anchored their ships, and george caven said, right, come on, let's go to washington and sack the place. The american defence department was incresiblyncredibly badly run by a man called armstrong. There were no attempts to hit the brits once they arrived in chesapeake bay. But there was nothing with this huge british fleet that could do anything about it.
