The Importance of Talking Differently
In ancient times, empires could tell different stories to different groups of people about who you were and why you were in charge. And it was much harder for your subjects to cross reference those stories and see the contradictions in them. So I wonder if the stories that we have are a reflection of the fact that these Cyrus and the people around him knew that you could talk differently to different people.
