Thomas Nevinson by Margaret Boyd

Thomas Nevinson is a character who we've already read about in Mariasas' previous novel, Betta Isla. He's completely anglo-Spanish, completely bilingual and has a kind of double identity from birth. We meet Thomas in this novel when he's very, very weary, and tired, and kind of spent,. And so, he's become more human in a way. It does have some thrilling moments, but it's sometimes quite a sedate read. I mean, it's full of digression and philosophical musings - these things that are sort of innate to Mariasas’ style.
