Max Planck's Photoelectric Effect Paper of 1905

Max Planck interpreted his results to mean that something about the nature of matter caused it to emit light with these discrete energy steps. Einstein took a more radical interpretation of some of the data. He said that it's not about the matter, It's not about how the stuff's being radiated or vibrating and anything like this,. But it's about the natureof light itself. And then his photoelectric effect paper of 1905, used his interpretation to explain experimental results that nobody previously understood.
