In the Republic, Plato had already radically revised his philosophical psychology. He abandoned as more simplistic the claim that moral evils derive from a battle between the soul and the urgent desires of the body. In all that, we see a recognition of the need for self-criticism comparable to those proposed by Kant and Wittgenstein.
