The Uses of Heritage by Laura Jane Smith is an archaeologist and a critical heritage studies scholar. In 2006, she posited that there was an authorized heritage discourse. She argued that this discourse shaped our understanding and practice in heritage. There has been conversation about whether or not subsequent critical interventions in heritage have really dismantled or displaced theauthorized heritage discourse.
