When Henry VIII's brother died childless, he asked the Pope for a dispensation to divorce his wife. The Pope refused and said it would have to be ruled by Deuteronomy instead of Leviticus. So Henry sent an emissary to ask the Jewish community in Rome if they could rule on the issue. Now you have two Jewish communities arguing about biblical texts where there are no Jews. You can't make this stuff up, right?
