Is There Evidence of Sheared Rivets?
The NTSB says that even if the actuators failed and jammed, that this should be recoverable using the non failed elevator by pulling back in the control column. They found similar failures in over a hundred other seven 67 and seven 57s. The they fixed them, while they were all subsequently fixed. That being said, it's possible this rivet was broken, but did not contribute to the crash.
