For decades Ireland had been the only country in Europe, apart from East Germany, with a falling population. The Eighth Amendment was passed by two to one making it constitutionally illegal to have abortion. It also became illegal to give information about travelling abroad to get an abortion. In 1986 they held a referendum to consider overturning the ban on divorce in Ireland. And guess what happened Angela? Go on.
