The way they see the world remains quite similar. They favour a really conservative version of islam, which manifests in these very kind of and clear distinctions between genders. So it's more nu ance then, have they changed or haven't they? And what does the rest of the world do with that? Mean, how do you engage with that? Is there more room to influence them or deal with them on certain issues? I think we're just at the beginning of finding out what that the answer to that is.

While the Taliban have the power of violence on their side in Afghanistan, they nonetheless need civilians to comply with their authority. Both strategically and by necessity, civilians have leveraged this reliance on their obedience in order to influence Taliban behaviour.
