The Cost of Homelessness in the United States

The city of San Francisco is home to seven thousand homeless people. The federal government spends between three and six billion dollars a year on homelessness, subsidizing home ownership by orders of magnitude more than that. Housing prices have gone up several hundred billions of dollars in the last since 20 12. And against that we're spending as much as $3-6 billion per year for homelessness.
