Was Secession Legal?

Buchanan: The constitution is not clear on all kinds of things. It doesn't say anything in the constitution that secession is legal. How did one prevent a state from leaving the union? The constitution did not account for this. This indicates a real fear about what to do next, and whether the constitution could provide a path forward.
