The Debate About Empathy as a Moral Emotion
Ellie Anderson: Empathy trades on tons of implicit bias. We're less likely to empathize with people outside of our in group. There's also a huge disgust factor where people that we think are disgusting tends to not trigger empathy and thus not trigger moral behavior. In fact, empirical research shows that empathy does not make you treat people better.
