The Last Part of Plato's Sequence Is Wrong
Hansen and Fleck: Plato's model implies two separate things. First, most democracies will eventually become tyrannies; second, they were previously democracies. Sullivan: The empirical argument doesn't actually refute his claim that democracy leads to tyranny. He says Polybius later corrected one minor point in the cycle which Hansen and Fleck objected to.
