Japan has been active in the post-Cold War regional architectures. Japan was perceived as leading from behind or reactive in some corners. Late Prime Minister Abe Shinsou changed the perception of Japan's role in multilateralism. He took proactive initiatives on multilateralism such as free and open in the Pacific, Foip; CPTPP comprehensive progressive agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
