Christine Tasaro's brother was diagnosed with lymphoma when he was 15. Fatima Shams is a professor of Persian literature at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2022, it's estimated that more than 1.9 million new cancer cases will emerge.
The 22-year-old Iranian died in police custody after being arrested for wearing her hijab improperly. Her death has sparked a protest movement calling for the end of a regime that has for decades ruled Iran with an iron fist.
