Do You Have a Problem With Probabilities?
We should be assigning probabilities, actual numbers to our estimates. Thinking quantitatively is the key move in emergency medicine that I don't see my trainees actually doing. You can prove to yourself, ask them, what's your pretest probability of pulmonary embolism in this patient without their decision rules? That's just what's your number? Oh, they're high. And you could go further and ask them, okay, high pretest probability. What's the number? What's the percentage on that? Just as he said, Andrew, it's not about how many times a year we get called out for these types of things; it's about when those calls are made more often
