Is There a Dark Energy in the Universe?

We call it dark energy, which suggests that it's like a thing we understand as something in physics. But really, we don't know where this comes from. It's an area we have yet to illuminate. So I think it's sort of like mentally dark, more than physically dark, though also invisible. And then it's called dark because there's no visible evidence of it in a way, right? Like there's not like everything's glowing or something or there's some kind of explosion that you can see.
