The Human Brain Loves Efficiency
The patterns of stress and intonation in a language, called the prosody, matters too. Najelli took me through to a small dark room with a comfy chair facing a TV screen. A baby will sit on their parents' lap and watch the screen while under the close observation of an eye tracker. The infrared light monitors how long the baby spends looking at different things on the screen. And it's used as a readout of what the baby is paying attention to or thinking.
