Why Do Our Homes Suck Money Out of Our Budgets?

i'm passionate about making housing a smarter choice. Technology exists for us to build and create houses thatr or provide for us. There are so many non traditional options for housing. Why is it that yo have to have a 30 year mortgage for a house? i believe it's possible, and it's possible without sacrificing much life style.
