I think we're moving into a period that almost paves the way for totalitarianism. America's always been divided, but people do feel like it's worse now. There are is sort of the anglo american tradition, which is obviously much bigger than just the united states,. In liberal democracy, there's generally this political spectrum of left to right. And politics involves trying to win as much of that spectrum as you can on your unparticular issues.
