Confucianism is very much against what we might think of as the enlightenment, individualistic way of looking at the world. It's something there is a higher level of emergente structure that is at least as important as determining the individuals. And also, the other kind of anti enlightenment thing, part of its anti enlightenment individualism, it's also anti enlighten ment a anti traditionalism. The idea that you could just be like descartes and independently reproduce all that on your own is delusional.
