The Paradox of Sacrifice
The Apostle Paul gives us two prerequisites to being able to discern what is the good and the pleasing and perfect will of God for our lives. In verse 1, Paul says, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice,. So this is an image that goes back to the Old Testament sacrificial system. An animal sacrificed on the altar is not for itself. It's given up for something greater.
