Democracy and Backsliding - Is There a Dip in Democracy Score?
There are surprisingly few scholarly articles that actually try to systematically look at the evidence and establish whether or not there really is a dip in democracy scores. The papers that do exist have generally relied on three existing datasets that are global, polity, freedom house and feed-in varieties of democracy. On average, every country has about five coders and they actually disagree with each other a non-trivial amount,. About one point off of a four or five point scale.
